Supporting Minority Access to the Financial Services Industry

Challenge

As a minority-owned firm, Ramirez is a strong proponent of diversity and inclusion in the workspace and is particularly sensitive to commitments of diversity initiatives. Ramirez strives to provide business opportunities to qualified minorities and women. We take pride that 100% of our regional offices are being led by a minority, woman or military veteran. It is important to the firm that we have a pipeline of diverse talent.

Actions

The firm and its' employees are highly active in the following organizations in effort to enhance minorities' access to the financial services industry:

  • Urban Leadership Fellows Program: Since 1997, Ramirez has provided summer internships to graduating high school seniors where they are educated on the municipal bond industry
  • New York State Homes and Community Renewal Municipal Finance Fellowship Program: Since 2002, the firm's public finance department has hosted a graduating college senior for a one year internship designed to establish a point of entry into the industry.
  • National Women in Public Finance: Ramirez is a sponsor of both the National and Chapter-level scholarship programs which give more than a dozen financial awards annually for the pursuit of education in public finance
  • National Association of Securities Professionals: Dedicated to supporting minority members of the securities industry, Ramirez is actively involved in providing fellowship and internship opportunities to minorities and women of NASP nationwide.
Outcomes

As a result of the emphasis placed on recruiting diverse talent, 40+% of new hires over the past ten years have been minorities, women, or veterans and 80+% of interns have been minorities or women. Currently, 50% of Ramirez employees are minorities, women, and veterans. Recruiting and retaining diverse talent has been a key component of our past, current, and future success.
