Sponsorship and Mentorship

Challenge

Public accounting is a traditionally a male-dominated environment, particularly at the senior-leadership level. We identified a need to provide more diversity at the leadership level.

Actions

GHJ strongly supports our female employees with opportunities not only internally but externally. We created a Women’s Empowerment Series in order to cultivate confidence and courage by fostering the achievements of women. Through this initiative, we aim to empower current and future leaders and provide networking, learning and recognition opportunities for our employees. We hold a number of events each year and invite female leaders/entrepreneurs and business owners to meet and speak with our employees at all levels. Our male employees are also encouraged to participate to enable them to support the growth of our future female leaders.

In addition, we provide many opportunities for our female employees to present at conferences, encourage and support them to become moderators and speak on panels, and encourage and support them to become board members of nonprofits. We also recognize and promote the strengths of our women and the value they bring to our organization by provide female role models in leadership positions to act as role models and mentors.

Outcomes

Through helping our employees’ #BeMore, encouraging diversity in recruiting and providing sponsorship and mentoring to help our employees grow their careers, GHJ has created a culture of inclusion that supports and encourages diversity at all levels of our Firm.
