With more than 20 communities of practice, 6,000 Convention attendees between in-person and online, 10 committees and more than 10,000 members coming from more than 150 countries it can often be difficult to ensure everyone is being treated fairly, equitably, respectfully, and so much more. TESOL recognized the need to put into writing its expectations of its members, volunteer leaders and staff when interacting with each other.
Over the course of 2021 we wrote and distributed a member code of conduct and a social media policy to communicate the association’s expectations for how individuals should act, collaborate and communicate with each other in all formats.
Established a reporting and review mechanism for complaints, both policies are posted on our website, are communicated to members at the time of joining or renewing and to attendees at the time of registration. Volunteer leaders receive the policies when they accept their appointment.
