Herbalife's Inclusion Education & Training

Challenge

As our DEI programs expand, we needed a way to ensure all employees have a common understanding of the language we use when we talk about our objectives. For this reason, we developed a dynamic, customized learning approach which introduced the concept of unconscious bias to all employees at every level within the organization.

Actions

Starting with our executive leadership team, we partnered with a DEI consultant to host an Inclusive Leadership & Unconscious Bias workshop during a multi-day global leadership event known as our Global General Managers’ Meeting (or GGMM).  We also utilized PwC materials to develop an in-house Unconscious Bias e-learning course for all global leaders. Developing the course in-house allowed us to fuse concepts of unconscious bias awareness with our company’s values and core competencies. For all employees, we are launching unconscious bias training offered through LinkedIn Learning, which allows the topic to be accessed by a global audience through their translated content. Additionally, we have launched a “DEI Playlist” through our company’s learning management system. This playlist will be refreshed periodically to ensure our employees receive the latest in DEI topics. Lastly, our in-house Servant Leadership development program is evolving into Inclusive Leadership, where leaders will learn how to apply the 9 behaviors of servant leadership to leading inclusively.

Outcomes

This tailored approach to teaching concepts like unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, and DEI to various employees at different levels within the organization has proven very successful. This approach ensures that all learners are truly engaged with the content, and that they can meaningfully incorporate these concepts into their work, no matter what level they are in the organization.

Quote

This training on unconscious bias is part of a larger effort to preserve and perpetuate an inclusive workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging. The purpose of this training is to personally identify our own biases so we can make decisions and act in ways that align our intentions with our actions. Together we can ensure our company is a place where people of all genders, ethnicities, abilities, cultures, races, religions, and sexual orientations cannot only succeed, but thrive.
