Helping Those in Need Through COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented new challenges for people, businesses and economies around the globe.

Actions

HARMAN identified new ways to provide support, mitigate the spread of the virus and weather its impact through our global cause platform, HARMAN Inspired.

Outcomes

A few examples of how HARMAN continues to support our communities during the pandemic under the leadership of newly appointed CEO, Michael Mauser, include:

  • Creating and Donating Protective Gear – In Denmark and Germany, HARMAN’s automotive teams partnered with local volunteers and suppliers to 3D-print protective face masks to protect healthcare workers treating coronavirus patients. The teams provided enough supply for several hundred hospital workers who were struggling to meet the demand for protective gear.

  • Supporting Learning from Home Efforts – To help support teachers, parents, and students working and learning from home, HARMAN’s iconic JBL brand partnered with nonprofit Little Kids Rock (LKR) on two national efforts that supplied nearly 10,000 headphones to underserved communities. The first initiative donated thousands of JBL headphones to schools across the country and invited HARMAN brand ambassadors like NY Yankee Aaron Judge and actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas to share messages of hope and resilience with students. During the separate “Buy One, Give One” campaign, JBL and LKR collaborated to donate a pair of JBL over-the-ear headphones to a school in need for each purchase on JBL.com.
  • Bolstering Employee Engagement – HARMAN’s new, virtual work-from-home programs helped teams seamlessly adjust to long-term remote work. HARMAN’s in-house learning and development program, HARMAN University, created timely courses on topics like productivity at home, managing anxiety, embracing digital solutions and overcoming unconscious bias. HARMAN also launched a Month of Gratitude program encouraging employees to thank their colleagues for their help and support throughout this challenging year. .HARMAN received the highest honor in the 2020 Marcom Awards for its public Learning Sessions that provide free, on-demand, webinars on the latest professional equipment and techniques.
