HBCU Recruiting and Summer Internship Program

Challenge

NCCI recognized the opportunity to deepen our engagement with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that align with our talent needs to increase our pipeline diversity.

Actions

A multiyear strategy was developed to foster relationships with three Florida HBCUs and attract students and alumni to join NCCI. Over the past two years, we have participated in virtual recruiting events including career fairs and information sessions, and initiated relationships with college staff to market NCCI as an employer of choice and recruit students for full-time opportunities. Additionally, a 12-week summer internship program was developed and instituted in our Customer Operations division to provide students with an immersive experience in a corporate environment and create a pool of potential future candidates.

Outcomes

As a result of our college recruiting efforts, two students were hired for entry-level positions in 2021 and another this year. Additionally, two HBCU students were offered the opportunity to participate in the inaugural year of our internship program. NCCI will continue to increase our involvement with these colleges in the upcoming school year and anticipate that the number of employees and interns will grow as they become more familiar with our organization and career opportunities.
