Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Micro-Learnings at ENPHG

Challenge

In 2020, it became clear that learning opportunities around diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of the company were as necessary as any other routine learning to allow team members to be their best.

Actions

In partnership with the Learning & Training pillar of our HR department, our Education Committee conducted extensive research into appropriate topics, vendors, frequencies, and beyond to integrate into our LMS.

Outcomes

All new hires are required to complete Choosing Your Words (Intentional Inclusion) and Everything Adds Up (Microaggressions), and some of the quarterly 10-15 minute microlearnings all ENPHG team members are required to complete include Using Inclusive Terms, Understanding Equity vs. Equality, and a Workplace for All Ages. Additionally, leaders like District Managers are required to take at least one additional learning per year, usually a more extensive workshop, like “Becoming an Inclusive Leader”. Our DEI Council’s Education and Communication Committees work closely with one another to ensure these learnings are clearly communicated and prioritized. Additionally, quarterly opportunities for team members to provide feedback via virtual listening sessions and surveys are given, and metrics are tracked to ensure continued progress, including completion rates to more qualitative benchmarks regarding the level of engagement and meaningful takeaways.

Learning is an important part of our continued journey as a company and as individuals. DE&I training shifted from optional to a mandatory and shared learning experience and has therefore rooted personal growth in this space as a foundation across our entire organization.
