Challenge

To build a more diverse talent pipeline and open equitable pathways to development and advancement to increase representation of diverse talent and progress toward gender parity at Director level+.

Actions

We recently partnered with Mathison, the largest diverse hiring network in the world, giving us access to a broad network of diverse candidates. We also recently introduced a new talent acquisition platform, Ascendify, that uses predictive intelligence to help attract, engage and identify the best talent and make it easier for colleagues to apply for internal roles.

We are advancing our Women in Leadership program, launched regionally in the UK two years ago, which continues to provide women leaders with individual coaching, leadership and career development, and networking opportunities with the goal of career advancement, increasing the representation of women among senior leadership, and taking action to address the gender pay gap.

And as a member company of the American Association of Publishers (AAP), and with our CEO, Brian Napack, as Chairman of AAP’s Board, we are working in partnership with publishers across the industry to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the current and future talent pipeline by identifying key metrics and collecting data, identifying and sharing best practices, and building targeted partnerships with schools, diverse author networks, and other organizations.

Outcomes

We are setting new goals for recruiting and hiring diverse talent to better measure the success of these initiatives. /We are already making progress toward gender parity with an 8% increase of women at the SVP level from FY20 to FY21. The Women in Leadership Program piloted in the UK will launch globally in 2021. Our newest ERG, Wiley Women in Technology (WWIT), strives to support and advance colleagues’ leadership potential through connection, mentorship, collaboration, and discussion.
