Development & Implementation of a Diversity & Inclusion Committee

Challenge

There was a lack of formalized integration of diversity and inclusion efforts in relation to the core values and culture of our organization.

Actions

In 2020 we organized a key team of diverse and inclusive members of our population to lead D&I initiatives company wide. This team was tasked with creating a DEI mission statement followed by creating actionable and sustainable initiatives that foster educational awareness, internal employee and leadership DEI training, and improved focus on diversity in talent and recruiting.

Outcomes

We now have an active and sustaining D&I Committee who meet regularly to carry out the established mission. The committee leads efforts to survey, collect, and analyze diversity data of our growing team to better understand and serve our population as well as increase our efforts in the recruitment of new diverse talent. The team executes on consistent communications offering education and resources in the form of theme months, monthly newsletters, and more. The team also executes on planning and hosting team events fostering sharing and personal interactions in the form of themed happy hours, book club, and hours of reflection. Creation and delivery of trainings for leadership and employees have also been implemented within the company by this team. The outcome of these initiatives is a more engaged and diverse workforce who not only interact internally in a space where they are encouraged to bring their whole authentic selves to work every day, but to also instill these values in the work and interactions they have with our client base, as we are a consulting and service leader within our industry. These results are directly reflected in our employee survey results and feedback. The committee has created and enhanced a culture of respect, belonging, learning, and acceptance.
