Building On Our Values to Evolve Our Culture of Inclusion

Challenge:

At MVW, fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment is pivotal to our success. We've embarked on an Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) journey, implementing crucial initiatives such as feedback mechanisms, learning programs, and strategies to enhance representation in leadership roles.

Actions:

To understand the associate experience at MVW, we prioritize feedback by conducting a global annual Associate Engagement Survey. This survey covers various topics, from management styles to operational processes, including an Inclusion and Diversity index. Of the 15 dimensions included, the index Associates rated highest was Inclusion & Diversity at 87%. In 2021, the Executive Inclusion Council was established, comprising representatives from all functions and businesses. Council members champion I&D initiatives and provide valuable feedback throughout the organization. Furthermore, our values—Caring Culture, Integrity First, Excellence Always, Customer Obsessed, and Better Together—serve as the foundation for fostering associate development. Initiatives like the "Venture to Leadership" program contribute to leadership pipeline development through a cohort-based learning experience. In 2023, we introduced the "Building Inclusive Teams" program, enhancing leaders' awareness of diversity dimensions and inclusive practices.

Outcomes:

Our efforts have yielded significant outcomes. Globally, women make up 54% of our workforce, and in the U.S., people of color constitute 45% of our management team. Our commitment to racial diversity is evident, with 66% of associates being racially diverse. Recognized as a Most Loved Workplace® by Best Practice Institute in 2022 and 2021, and featured among U.S. News & World Report's 200 Best Companies to Work For, our dedication to I&D continues to be acknowledged. We collaborate closely with the American Resort Development Association to promote diversity and inclusion within our industry. Our internal I&D team, coupled with external expert partnerships, enables us to ensure our actions align with our values, thereby bridging any gaps between intention and execution. As we progress, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating an environment where associates know and feel they are seen, heard, and valued.

Within the hospitality industry, creating welcoming environments is what we do, so naturally we do the same for our associates.
