Wynn Veteran Councils

Challenge

Wynn Resorts employs hundreds of military veterans who play crucial roles in every major division and at every level of our Company, including our executive leadership team. In 2019, we made the decision to formalize and expand our veteran initiatives in order to create more opportunities for our employees, our guests, and our community.

Actions

In 2019 Wynn Las Vegas and the newly-opened Encore Boston Harbor created employee Veteran Councils (Employee Resource Groups) which have the following areas of focus:

  • Guest Experience - Identify new ways to identify, attract, and retain veteran guests
  • Employee Experience – Recognition and appreciation for veteran employees
  • Community Service and Philanthropy – Provide support to local and national veterans organizations
  • Recruiting and Hiring – Training and education for our hiring team, and increased participation in local veteran job fairs
Outcomes

Wynn Las Vegas was certified as a Patriot Employer by the Nevada Department of Veterans Affairs. The Patriot Employer program shows companies where to find veterans, how to retain them, and other benefits to hiring men and women who have served our country.

To celebrate Veteran’s Day weekend, Wynn Las Vegas hosted a $100,000 Veteran’s Day Slot Tournament. The Company made donations totaling $17,500 in the name of the top three winners to one of three veteran charities: Veterans of Foreign Wars, United Service Organization (USO), and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Wynn Resorts continues to be a key financial supporter for Veterans Village in Las Vegas, and we have expanded the number of employee volunteer opportunities at veteran charities including US Vets, a local organization that finds homeless veterans and guides them to crucial services that might help alleviate the challenges they face as a result of their homelessness.
