Women's Interactive Network

Challenge

Janney faced the same challenge most financial services firm struggle with: under-representation of women in leadership positions.

Actions

In 2012, a number of female leaders from across Janney’s business collaborated to establish the Janney Women’s Interactive Network (WIN). WIN’s goal is to improve the business and professional environment for all at Janney, with an emphasis on the advancement, retention and recruitment of women at the Firm. Led by over 40 highly engaged volunteers, WIN is comprised of three distinct committees: the Communications Committee, the Events and Programs Committee and the Annual Conference Committee. The committees plan and coordinate networking opportunities, volunteer events and professional development programs.

Proudly in its fifth year, WIN continues to build awareness of inclusion and equality, expand its internal and external networks and further develop its programming in support of business, professional and personal development for women at Janney. WIN is open to men and women and considers male colleagues as allies in its mission.

Outcomes

Since WIN’s inception, it has seen its membership grow to over 300+ members.  It has been so successful that it spawned four new employee resource groups (ERGs) and serves as the model for Janney ERGs.  WIN planted the seed for organic mentoring relationships and contributes to a boost in female peer to peer networking.  We are also pleased to share Janney has seen a 10% increase in women in leadership positions since 2012.  Progress such as this is one of many reasons why WIN has been a great achievement in our pursuit of diversity and inclusion.

Quote

As important as it is to serve our clients and meet our financial goals, it is equally important to provide our employees a stable, healthy, vibrant, and inclusive place to work – we are not going to have one without the other. I’m proud the Janney Women’s Interactive Network is helping in this effort.
