VyStar Employee Resource Group

Challenge

Providing a supported space to give employees a voice and foster mutual growth between the VyStar Resource Groups, executive sponsors, and leadership.

Actions

As part of VyStar Credit Union's commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion, we established VyStar Resource Groups (VRGs) to give employees multiple platforms to learn about, discuss and embrace different perspectives. Creating VRGs has helped us build a more inclusive environment and address diversity and inclusion in a more holistic, community-based way.

Outcomes

In nine months, VyStar has established 10 VyStar Resource Groups, which not only support the seven protected classes under Title VII, but also foster social networks.

  • African Heritage – Shades of Success (SOS)
  • Asian Heritage: A.S.I.A – A Society of Inclusiveness and Awesomeness
  • Differently Abled – VyAbility
  • Hispanic Heritage – La Voz de Mi Gente (LVMG)
  • LGBTQ+ - VyPride
  • VyStar Employees That Served (VETS) - Veteran Group
  • Women at VyStar Empowered (W.A.V.E.)

Social Networks

  • Emerging Leaders of Tomorrow (ELT)
  • Older, Wiser, Livelier Seniors (OWLS) – Over 50+
  • Parents are Leaders (PALs)

Our VRGs foster a sense of belonging among employees through promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and socialization. The groups share information and lead events that are open to all employees.

Along with social activities, each group also focuses on professional development. Roundtable discussions are regularly organized by the VRGs, delivering opportunities to share knowledge with peers from other departments, leadership within the organization and professionals in the community. Topics of discussion have included “Career Growth Mindset,” “Career Planning & How to Brand Yourself,” “Journey to Finding Your Passion,” “Employment Advancement in Corporate America with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)” and many others.

In addition to promoting socialization and professional development, VRGs support the community by contributing to charities and other volunteer efforts.
