Unconscious Bias/Inclusive Leadership Learning

Challenge

Promoting diversity and inclusion is a journey.  Making the commitment is the first step.  Awareness is essential to the follow through of this commitment.  Education and learning creates the necessary awareness at all levels of the organization.

Actions

“Diversity and Inclusion: It Matters!” e-learning module was created and released to the organization in Autumn 2019.  This 15 minute e-learning module focused on the following:

  • Explain the benefits of diversity in the workplace and how it impacts your job.
  • Realize the impact your unconscious bias has in your decision making.
  • Understand basic terminology surrounding diversity and inclusion.
  • Understand the behaviors needed to embrace diversity and inclusion.

We will enhance and expand our unconscious bias education in coming months.   Our goal is to acknowledge, recognize, and work towards eliminating biases.  Inclusive leaders are aware of their own biases and preferences and consider different views and perspectives to assist in making better decisions.  Embedding the diversity and inclusion lens in the employee lifecycle is key to our success.

Outcomes

TechnipFMC launched the “Diversity and Inclusion: It Matters!” e-learning module in Autumn 2019.  45 percent of registered participants have completed the training module to date.  In February 2020, 12 leaders at various levels of the organization participated in an Unconscious Bias Workshop pilot.  There is a future goal to launch unconscious bias training in 2020.

We commit to do more in the area of Diversity & Inclusion across our organization, including:

Making TechnipFMC a trusting place to have complex, and sometimes difficult, conversations about diversity and inclusion by encouraging an ongoing dialogue and valuing openness;

Enhancing and expanding our unconscious bias education, so that we acknowledge, recognize, and work towards eliminating these biases; and

Broadening our Sustainability focus to create a TechnipFMC, at all levels of our organization, that reflects the gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or disability diversity of the communities in which we operate.

I am delighted to join the CEO action for D&I and look forward to working with industry peers in driving change.
