Unconscious Bias Learning Journey

Challenge

Create a more open, authentic and inclusive workplace; deliver interactive unconscious bias learning virtually to an 1800 person workforce.

Actions

Provide an experiential learning journey focused on unconscious bias and inclusive leadership.

Outcomes

Starting with the CEO and Executive Team support, we set out to embark on a 12-month experiential learning journey. We first invited all leaders and managers to participate in the learning which set the foundation for awareness and understanding of unconscious bias and how to lead inclusively to unleash potential of self and others – each leader session was kicked-off by the CEO sharing his own powerful, personal story of his journey and intent for the outcome of the learning. Leaders then began to model behaviors by sharing in the sessions and enable employees to participate in learning sessions to follow. After employee sessions, leaders were provided with a meeting guide to facilitate post-learning conversations to sustain the learning and create an open forum discussion in a smaller team setting. Metrics gathered after module 1 of 4 indicated positive momentum toward more intentional conversations and interactions to cultivate a more inclusive culture. Nearly 70% of employees participated in the first offering, with a session Learning Net Promoter Score (L-NPS) ranging from 46 to 75, with an average of 48.
