Troubling Times in America

Statement

The following was sent to all Chesapeake employees on June 3, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

This is a painful and challenging time for our country. The COVID pandemic has claimed more than 100,000 lives in the U.S. alone and led to economic uncertainty, not just in our industry but across all levels of the economy. The senseless death of George Floyd and other violent acts against people of color have shed further light on the underlying issues of racism and social injustice still impacting our country. The recent examples of civil unrest demonstrate the pain and anger felt by so many, illustrating how far we collectively have to go as a nation.

As I reflect on these events, I am deeply saddened by what I have seen. There is simply no place for racism, bigotry and hate in our society, and my resolve to ensure Chesapeake continues to be an inclusive and diverse community has never been stronger. I am proud that we were the first company in our industry to sign the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge, and I am steadfast in my commitment to advancing inclusion and diversity in our culture. It is central to our core values and the right thing to do, both morally and for our business.

During times like this, I believe it is critical for Chesapeake to play a leadership role in the communities in which we operate. It is my hope that together as One CHK we can play our part in supporting the healing and influencing positive change in our communities.

Thank you for your support in this effort.

Doug Lawler
