Train All Managers on Leveraging Inclusion and Mitigating Unconscious Bias

Challenge

At BOK Financial, we want to foster a culture where every employee feels like an insider, where they are free to be themselves and valued for who they are. To ensure we are fostering a work environment where employees fit in and feel compelled to help others fit in, we are providing education and training on leveraging inclusion and mitigating unconscious bias.

Action

Our Talent and Organizational Development team created a comprehensive educational program on inclusion and bias. We implemented the training starting with executive leadership and later introduced it to every manager in the company. We will continue to provide training for all employees, focusing on broadening perspectives, challenging assumptions and appreciating differences. Learnings provided were:

  • Broaden Perspectives: Purposely try to see something from others’ points of view
  • Challenge Assumptions: Purposely try to differentiate fact from opinion
  • Appreciate Differences: Purposely try to seek and understand differences 
Outcomes

By learning about inclusion and bias, we have empowered our managers to apply the learnings to their day-to-day decisions, creating a more inclusive culture. Managers now have concrete action strategies to recognize and mitigate bias. We believe that building a strong culture of inclusion will enable us to fully leverage the power of diversity for our organization, our employees, our customers and our communities.
