TEAK Partnership

Challenge

In line with RBC’s corporate focus on Youth and Education, we committed to build partnerships with nonprofit organizations that help under-served and underrepresented youth achieve their full potential through educational means to make a lasting social impact.

Actions

RBC was introduced to The TEAK Fellowship, a non-profit that helps prepare diverse middle school students from low-income families to gain entry into the nation’s most selective High Schools and Colleges through intensive programming provided free of charge to all accepted students.

RBC initiated a relationship with TEAK in 2015 and continues to support TEAK in a number of

ways, including:

  • Financial support provided through (i) RBC Foundation grants to TEAK’s College Success Program, and (ii) staff/client fundraising through our annual RBC Race for the Kids and the RBC Paddle Battle events.
  • Employee volunteer engagement from over 100 RBC employees who have donated their time and skills to college and career readiness workshops with TEAK Scholars.
  • Employee representation on TEAK’s Board of Directors AND their highly competitive Mentor Program.
Outcomes

RBC has hired two Teak Scholars over the last two summers and been a significant contributor to TEAK financially. RBC’s impact on TEAK Scholars is captured well in the following testimonial from a full-time TEAK Scholar hire, “I am continually impressed by the generosity of the employees at RBC, and, am overwhelmed with an immense feeling of excitement to join such an amazing firm.  I firmly plan to continue RBC’s tradition of philanthropy as an employee of RBC.”
