Supporting Our Communities

Action

During a time filled with fear and uncertainty, we are committed to working together and supporting each other in every way possible. Our communities are no exception and we will continue to take steps to support them during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are a few of the ways our company and our employees are helping:

We are working closely with Ventec Life Systems, in cooperation with StopTheSpread.org, to rapidly scale up production of their critically important respiratory products.

  • To help workers in essential services across the country, we will produce up to 50,000 Level 1 face masks daily – or 1.5 million a month.
  • We are directing $2 million in grant funding to nonprofit organizations across the country to address increasing critical needs. This includes $1 million to the DonorChoose.org “Keep Kids Learning” campaign that will provide $1,000 credits for teachers to send resources like food, books, tech and more to their students’ homes.
  • With a severe shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in our health care system, our Global Purchasing Supply Chain team began work to find excess PPE.
  • While there are many nonprofits doing critical work across the country, GM has established employee donation portals for two of our partners who are uniquely poised to act:
    • United Way’s 211 call center is a helpline to connect families to emergency resources like food, housing and utility assistance.
    • DonorsChoose.org is equipping teachers with resources to support their students during a time of vast uncertainty in the education system. Visit this link to support the effort.
  • GM employees and others are giving blood in local communities with a simple online pledge as part of the SleevesUp Campaign in partnership with the American Red Cross.
