Supplier Diversity Initiative

Challenge

Our commitment to diversity in the workplace also extends to our strategic clients and suppliers. We identified the opportunity to further engage our partners and saw an opportunity to establish strategic direction, expectations, policies, procedures, and annual objectives for AMN Healthcare’s supplier diversity efforts.

Actions

We created a new, dedicated role within our company. Our Supplier Diversity Manager is a designated diversity expert responsible for identifying opportunities to improve diversity by streamlining cross-departmental efforts, identifying industry trends and best practices, facilitating business partnerships with diverse suppliers, and partnering with national diversity supplier councils including the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) and the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). The Supplier Diversity Manager engages suppliers through regular cadence meetings to discuss challenges, opportunities, and courses of action. The Supplier Diversity Manager also coordinates educational forums for suppliers to network with business managers and review how they are performing as a strategic partner for AMN. A key focus moving forward is on identifying business opportunities beyond the traditional minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses to inclusion of LGBT-owned and disability-owned businesses.

Outcomes

By partnering with small and diverse companies, AMN Healthcare is committed to stimulating economic growth and sustainability in all communities by increasing the number of diversity suppliers with which it engages and the percent of spend with diversity suppliers. Our increased investment in supplier diversity ensures that we are building an inclusive and transparent culture, both with our clients, partners and as a company.

Quote

A company dedicated to diversity and inclusion must make sure these values extend throughout its business practices, and that particularly includes its dealings with suppliers. At AMN, we fervently believe that our business success is interdependent with our success in striving for diversity and inclusion in our business relationships, because that’s how we can procure the best quality resources to serve our clients. If any group is left out or underrepresented, the result is a diminution of quality, particularly in our field of healthcare staffing and workforce solutions. Our dedication to diversity and inclusion represents a companywide commitment to our team members and communities, and also to our clients, shareholders and associates.
