Student Access and Success

Challenge

We recognized the need to make a Lehigh education accessible to a broader spectrum of students.

Actions

Under the direction of our Vice President for Equity and Community, Lehigh has created a new position of Director for Student Access and Success to champion Lehigh’s efforts to expand access to the university for underrepresented groups with a focus on first generation and lower-income students and to ensure that a support system is in place, which enables these students to have an enriching and successful Lehigh experience. We recognize that far too many gifted and highly qualified students don’t seek admission to institutions like Lehigh because they don’t believe the opportunity is there. They need our support throughout their time here as well.

Our Student Access and Success programming will also ensure that these students have access to high-impact experiential learning opportunities. That is why Student Access and Success partnered with our Office of International Affairs to create Passport to Success, a program to help our students pursue academic opportunities beyond campus.  The program will provide students with free passports, educational trips, study abroad scholarships and personal mentoring.

Outcomes

To date, more than 150 students are supported through Student Access and Success with 15 who have received free passports through Passport to Success.
