SPECTRUM & Allies Employee Resource Group

Challenge:

From surveys and other employee feedback, Conning recognized that our LGBTQIA+ employees lacked feelings of inclusivity and belonging at work and faced perceived barriers to professional development and advancement. In addition, some of our employees have family members who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The firm also recognized the unique challenges to more junior employees in terms of coming out as LGBTQIA+.

Actions:

In June 2021, Conning formed an employee resource group SPECTRUM & Allies, to positively influence our work culture, ensure professional development for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and support the firm in achieving its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. Membership and participation in SPECTRUM events are open to all employees including allies of LGBTQIA+ community.

Outcomes:

Employee awareness and education has helped LGBTQIA+ employees feel more included at work. SPECTRUM & Allies has helped educate others and build empathy across the company. Activities have included webinars, published Q&As and sponsorship of a local pride event.
