Sensata’s Anti-Racist Program

Challenge

Ensure employees have equal access to self-paced learning to increase efforts to be actively anti-racist, educate themselves about system racism, and the impact on our friends, our family, and our colleagues of color.

In 2020 after the murder of George Floyd, we took the time to reflect and examine our own systems, processes, and practices to ensure that all employees had access to resources to not just be an ally but be an anti-racist. Understanding individuals on our global teams are at different places in their Diversity, Equity & Inclusion journey, we looked to ensure any programming delivered could be leveraged by all. Our goal was to create and impact change at an individual level through a self-paced Anti-Racist program via our learning management system.

Actions

Anti-racist program launched in our learning management system enabling employees to self-serve content based on where they are at in their anti-racist and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion journey.

The program includes resources for our employees to gain a better understanding of and commitment to building an inclusive environment and promote employee self-awareness and learning. The resources in the program include the views and opinions of various authors and presenters that are strictly their own and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Sensata. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team, with the help of employee resource groups and passionate colleagues compiled this list of resources that include on-demand trainings, whitepapers, book recommendations, podcasts and more. The goal of Sensata’s Anti-Racist Program is to aid in our efforts to be actively anti-racist, to educate ourselves about systemic racism, and how it impacts our friends, our family, and our colleagues of color.

The courses within this program were created as an a la carte menu to provide the learner access to a multitude of sources while building a program that is right for them. Managers may also auto-enroll their teams to this program to develop their teams. We updated the program in 2021 and continue to review content for this year.

Outcomes

Currently, 50 employees have enrolled in the program with many others accessing resources within the program.
