SABIC Pledge Against Racism & Inequality

Challenge

An organization is an extension of the community and helping address community challenges is the responsibility of any organization. These are difficult times with COVID and racial injustice in our communities. Acknowledging the situation and ensuring the commitment to our employees and community in these times has become a priority to SABIC. 

Actions

We hosted our first Juneteenth employee townhall to facilitate an honest conversation and to take a stand against the racial injustice happening across our society. This town hall brought together voices of employees who have direct experience with racism and inequality. Their stories helped created understanding and empathy to the broader organization. SABIC also published our Pledge against Racism & Inequality in the Americas. The pledge focuses on the commitment to foster safe workplaces, enhance our understanding and appreciation of our represented cultures, work on issues that matter to our society, and promote businesses and organizations whose values align with SABIC values including our position on anti-racism and inequality.

Outcomes

A detailed action plan on activities toward this commitment was developed and is in progress. The first action from the plan is the introduction of our Diversity Matters townhall series. Employees appreciated the organization’s courageous leadership and their authenticity and empathy.
