Responses to 2020 Racial Tensions at Association Headquarters

Challenge

Company ownership felt it was important that we engage our staff to better understand how they were feeling in response to all of the social unrest. It was agreed that as a company we wanted to be clear both internally as well as externally on our position regarcling not just the ongoing social injustice, but also to overall inclusion of all individuals regardless of race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, etc.

Actions
  1. Held meeting with our African American Staff.
  2. Scheduled a "Town Hall" meeting with entire staff and had professor at Rutgers University provide education and a Q&A.
  3. Retained third party firm to conduct interviews, focus groups and company-wide survey to collect information to assist in development of DEI strategy.
Outcomes

Appointed a DEI Advisory Council and hired a third party to assist in the development of company strategy, as well as look at hiring practices, company policies, etc. to ensure everything is in alignment.

Quote

Diversity, Equity and inclusion has always been a part of the culture of AH. It has been our long held belief that everyone is created equal and we wanted to ensure there is a visible link between what we say and what we do.
