Proud Out Loud – RBC PRIDE Ally Month

We were determined to increase engagement of allies to further our efforts to create a more inclusive environment for LGBT+ employees at RBC.

Actions

RBC PRIDE is our LBGT+ Employee Resource Group at RBCAs a lead in to Pride Month this past June, we named May as our first-time “Ally Month” to highlight the positive impact that allies have on our LGBT+ population. Ally Month consisted of a multi-part campaign to both significantly increase the visibility of our PRIDE ERG and encourage RBC allies to more visibly participate in our culture of inclusion. 

The first part of the Ally campaign was a “Fearless Friday” series featured on our intranet, which highlighted personal stories of Ally-ship shared by many senior leaders of RBC. These heartfelt stories helped create a dialogue about leadership behaviors throughout the organization. We augmented these stories by distributing PRIDE stickers to all colleagues for visible posting in their offices or desks, and, many allies went one step further by adding an “RBC Pride: I Am An ALLY” line to the bottom of their email signature. Lastly, we partnered with an important client for a panel discussion on best Ally behaviors and business impact.

Outcomes

Vocal and visible support of our LGBT population has resulted in a 112% increase in our PRIDE membership!  More importantly, since its debut in May 2017, Ally-ship has now become fully embedded into our Diversity and Inclusion DNA.
