As we’ve launched operations in new countries, ensuring all employees know and are active role models of our diversity, inclusion and mutual respect culture is critical to our success.
Over the past decade, American Tower has entered over a dozen new and culturally diverse markets. Early on, we recognized that ensuring a culture that embraces inclusion and mutual respect needed to be a fundamental part of our growth strategy. We took deliberate steps to enhance our New Hire Orientation program with training components that communicate and explain our commitment to a culture that celebrates diversity. In addition to a variety of training courses on who we are and how we do business, one of the highlights is Diversity at American Tower, a required online course that encourages employees to treat each other with respect and participate in our culture of inclusion.
While the course is customized for each market, the foundation of Diversity at American Tower centers on the business case for diversity as it relates to our success as a global organization. Additionally, the course presents a shared understanding of our diversity philosophy and emphasizes the role each person plays in maintaining a mutually respectful and inclusive environment.
In the decade since its launch, Diversity at American Tower has been added to required training for all American Tower markets. To date, 100% of employees have completed the course with most doing so within the first month of employment.
Management-level diversity courses have also been introduced including Unconscious Bias training and Inclusive Leadership. In our biennial global employee survey, we also measure employee opinions about our culture. In the latest survey, 98% of employees responded positively to “I clearly understand the company values” and 97% responded positively to “I believe in the values of this company.”
