LGBT Corporate Equality

Challenge

Precision wanted to ensure that our benefits are equitable and that we are offering competitive LGBT friendly benefits and a LGBT friendly workplace. We also recognized that our employees were not fully aware of the LGBT friendly work/life benefits that are currently available to them through the company.

Actions

At the suggestion of one of our employees, the HR team conducted research using the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index (https://www.hrc.org/resources/cor:porate-equality-index) to benchmark our current policies, practices and benefits pertinent to LGBT employees. The HR team reviewed the criteria and worked to update guidance, training and policies to meet the criteria that were previously missing when self-scoring based on the Corporate Equality Index. The HR team also partnered with our internal Creative Marketing team to develop a one-page "LGBT Friendly Benefits" summary and provide to all employees during Pride Month (June 2020). The Corporate VP HR also completed "SafeZone" training provided through the SafeZone Project (www.TheSafeZoneProject.com).

Outcomes

After updates to guidance, training and policies, as well as the formation of an employee diversity work group, Precision has nearly doubled its self-score on the Corporate Equality Index (from 45% to 80%). Employees are also more aware of the outreach efforts and the LGBT benefits offered by the company.

We want to make sure inclusion shows up in the most basic areas, such as our benefits. All components of our business must be evaluated and evolved to ensure that we activate a culture of inclusion.
