Lennox Women’s Business Council (LWBC)

Challenge

The HVACR industry has historically been very male-dominant. LWBC was launched in 2009 to create a space to develop and grow women, however it was critical at the same time to engage men to be advocates and sponsors for women at LII.

Actions

LWBC was formed with the mandate to:

  • Make LII a great place for women to work and create a culture of support for women at LII
  • Contribute to the communities where we live and work through donations, voluntarism and outreach programs.
  • Provide professional and cultural development opportunities for the broader LII workforce

Since its inception, LWBC has been committed to development for all, and as such LWBC welcomes both men and women to their events, including networking opportunities, lunch-and-learns, and community involvement. Our senior leadership is committed to attending these events, and often speak at LWBC events. Other events which benefit both men and women include:

  • Annual Executive Panel provides all LII employees the opportunity to hear from successful female executives about the challenges and opportunities they faced as they navigated their careers.
  • The LWBC Parenting Group offers a variety of resource to all LII parents, including most recently a guide to activities for children during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place.

We have now formed LWBC chapters in 7 additional US locations, as well as in 7 other countries where we have a presence.

Outcomes

Select outcomes include:

  • LWBC serves a showcase for female candidates and employees regarding our commitment to diversity. Through LWBC we are able to better recruit, develop, and retain female talent.
  • Men who attend LWBC events learn about the experience of being female in a male-dominated industry, and thus are better able to support the women they work with.
  • Annual LWBC sessions with customers address the broader need to increase diversity in the HVACR industry.
