As a start-up everything is new and fresh, this gives us a unique opportunity to create the environment we feel is important to our impact with our team, clients, partners and the community. It is important to the Executive Leadership team, which includes our CEO Mike Kijewski, that DEIB is woven into the foundation of how we operate. To do so, it was important that we are committed to cultivating an inclusive environment allowing every member of the team to see themselves in the work we do and the impact we have.
In 2023 Medcrypt formalized its commitment to DEIB by launching its DEIB Committee. The committee’s focus is on the development and implementation of Medcrypt’s DEIB initiatives.
Our first step was to write our DEIB Mission Statement, this statement speaks to our commitment to inclusion, equity, belonging and diversity with our customers, partners, and team members. The statement has been posted to our website as part of our Culture initiative. We also have 4 taskforces that launched in 2024, Retention, Org Culture, Diversity in Hiring, and Education & Training. These four taskforces are dedicated to driving our DEIB goals, learnings, cultural development, and impact.
During our first company retreat in October 2023 we had a session dedicated to DEIB education facilitated by Joyce Kyles. Mrs. Kyles led the session, starting with education and taking us on a journey through important topics such as unconscious bias, communication, empathy, allyship.
As part of our Education & Training taskforce we launched the Medcrypt Academy which includes training and an ongoing speaker series. In 2024 we kicked-off our company-wide training on Workplace Diversity with Racism, Bystander, and Unconscious Bias trainings. To-date we have a company-wide completion rate of 99%.
Under the Hiring with Diversity taskforce, we have relaunched our Co-op/Internship program with specific focus on HBCU partnership development in STEM.
The Retention taskforce is preparing a Pulse of Medcrypt employee survey for Q2 2024 whereby we will collect data from our employees regarding their experience with the organization. This data will help inform our continuous work in the areas of importance to them.
The Organizational Culture task force is launching a new ERG, Champions for Professional Growth. This ERG will be a safe space for employees seeking peer-to-peer support on their career journey. This ERG will have open forum discussions allowing members to share their experience and advice navigating career challenges. In partnership with the Education & Training Taskforce we launched our speaker series. In March we had our Women’s History Month panel entitled “Rockstar Women at Medcrypt”, discussing how the panelist have navigated the STEM industry as women. In May we have a fireside chat scheduled with Lan Phan, CEO Community of Seven and Author of “Do This Daily”, to discuss generational trauma, societal/cultural pressures, and how to live authentically prioritizing your mental health.
