Inclusive Leadership & Leading Out of Drama Training

Challenge

One of our goals outlined in our DEI Strategic Plan is to build and develop capacity and competency to lead and manage a diverse workforce. Conning recognized that it is often difficult and uncomfortable for employees to discuss topics in the DEI realm at work. Many times, these conversations are complex and emotional, leading some to avoid these discussions.

Actions

We have pledged to cultivate a workplace that supports open dialogue on complex, and sometimes difficult, conversations about diversity and inclusion. As part of our commitment to DEI, we provide several opportunities for employees to participate in events and activities designed to help us explore our similarities and differences and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue. In 2023, all Conning employees in North America participated in a Leading Out of Drama workshop, which explored the topic of compassionate accountability. Additionally, Conning’s North America leadership team participated in a discussion on inclusive leadership led by the director of training and development.

Outcomes

The goal of this workshop was to help employees build skills to engage in difficult and important conversations, and become more inclusive as leaders, colleagues, and teammates.

Quote

We believe our diverse perspectives and experiences enable us to enhance our ability to serve our clients. We strive to fulfill our mission by creating a work environment that allows all employees to attain their full potential personally and professionally. We expect this to be more than a ‘check the box’ exercise for compliance purposes. As we continue to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, we should build momentum while each of us integrates new approaches into our daily work.
