Inclusive Benefits Approach

Challenge

LEO Pharma Inc. is the U.S. affiliate of Denmark-based LEO Pharma A/S. The company marked its 10-year anniversary of its U.S. presence in 2019 and embarks on a strategic transformation as an employer of choice on a local and national level. The company faces the challenge of ensuring its benefits programs are inclusive and meet the needs of the company’s diverse employee population, while remaining competitive.

Actions

The company has continued to enhance its benefits program over the last decade for U.S. employees. This includes extending coverage of benefits to same-sex domestic partners. As part of its support of work-life flexibility, LEO Pharma Inc. has launched its Altruist Program, which provides all full-time employees with an additional paid day off per year to volunteer their time, energy and efforts to support programs in their communities. LEO Pharma grants three weeks of paid parental leave to full-time employees who are both mothers and fathers. The company has also increased virtual wellness offerings, through regular workouts and promoting its employee assistance program.

Outcomes

Employees share feedback appreciative of the company’s benefits design and flexibility. Since creation of the Altruist Program, employees have volunteered more than hundreds of hours.
