Inclusion Education and Training: Reaffirming Vi’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Challenge

Hate, prejudice, and discrimination will never be tolerated at Vi. We are a Vi family made up of dedicated and talented team members committed to improving the lives of older adults. We recognize the experiences and strength of each individual and the diversity of experiences we each contribute. We are stronger because of our diversity and better because of our differences. Now more than ever, our diversity will help us weather the most challenging time in our company’s history and likely our lives. We accomplish so much by coming together as One Vi with One Purpose to care for our residents and one another with dignity and respect.

Actions

Led by Vi’s President and SVP of HR and Learning, Vi held an all Company leadership session facilitated by   leadership keynote speaker and author Risha Grant, an internationally renowned bias, diversity and inclusion expert entitled, “PERMISSION: GRANTED TO GET RID OF YOUR B.S.”

Throughout her session with all Vi leaders, Risha Grant invited attendees to authentically express their biases, while giving learners tools to easily apply. Although diversity can often be an uncomfortable topic, Risha’s approach helped learners to easily understand the concept, without feeling bored or judged.

Risha Grant teaches Diversity & Inclusion through the lens of humanity using terms like B.S. or Bias Synapse as a way to explain our brain’s involvement in the processing and validation of bias.

Outcomes

Leaders left this session with:

  • An understanding of Diversity & Inclusion
  • A thorough awareness of their own biases
  • A realization of how their own biases originated
  • A recognition of the symptoms and results of bias
  • Strategies to address internal and external biases
  • Tips to navigate the “hot spots” of workplace diversity
  • A personal commitment to create one or more actionable strategies to cultivate workplace diversity and inclusion
