Inclusion Education and Training at Gem

Challenge

To keep DEI top-of-mind for the entire company—especially as we scale.

Actions

Gem has a quarterly commitment to engage the entire company on a topic relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Recent training sessions include unconscious bias; bystander training; and a DEI forum focusing on identity, navigating difficult conversations, understanding micro-indignities, and creating a culture of belonging for all Gems. In an effort to maintain a culture of transparency and feedback, we survey Gems regularly. These surveys are anonymous, and the point is to keep a finger on the pulse of whether team members are made to feel that they belong at Gem.

Outcomes

In our most recent survey, the statements “I feel like I belong at Gem” and “I feel respected at Gem” were both over 90% favorable.

Quote

As a recruiting technology platform focused on helping our customers track diversity and uncover bias in their hiring processes, DEI has necessarily been a priority at Gem from the beginning. Our ethos when it comes to our Gems is consistency, equity, and fairness. I know the work is never done; which is why I’m publicly committing to staying awake and attentive to what our Gems need; what makes them feel most celebrated; and how we can offer them a culture and a career path that feels like it honors them entirely for who they are, and for what they bring to our team.
