Inclusion Education and Training at Abdo

Challenge

As an accounting firm with an office just 10 minutes from where the George Floyd incident took place, we knew we wanted to formalize our DEI efforts with measurable goals in mind. We began by setting up a DEI committee apprised of members that showed commitment and passion for DEI efforts.

Actions

Our committee decided that education would be a top priority and quickly set up a goal of 8 hours of education per employee per year. We enlisted the assistance of the Greater Mankato Diversity Council to provide the firm with a 4 part training on implicit bias. The entire firm took part in the 6 hour virtual series and the feedback we received was very positive.

Outcomes

We plan to continue building on this training yearly and will continue to have 8 hours of DEI training per year as a top goal for the firm. Our next trainings will take place in early January—with videos and discussion around implicit bias provided by CEO Action plan. We also will bring in a diversity speaker for a DEI workshop in the fall.
