IDEA Committee 2022 Recap

Challenge:

Through Crystal Equation's 2022-2024 DEi Strategic Plan, the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Advancement Committee set out to achieve four main objectives:

  1. Recruit from a diverse, qualified group of candidates to increase diversity of backgrounds, thoughts and perspectives
  2. Foster a culture that encourages collaboration, flexibility and fairness to empower all employees in an inclusive environment
  3. Identity and break down systemic barriers to full inclusion by embedding a focus on diversity and inclusion into policies and practices
  4. Communicate DEi efforts internally and externally
Actions:

Crystal Equation set out to achieve the objectives listed above through the following actions:

  1. Job roles were advertised on a variety of online platforms, a subcommittee was formed to reach out to diverse Universities and Colleges for potential candidates
  2. The committee implemented two Diversity trainings for staff that included unconscious bias education. In addition, the committee developed an on line resource library that enhances staff awareness of diversity in race, culture, sexual identity, age and more
  3. The committee implemented an updated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy, outlining specific commitments from Crystal Equation, its employees and its Managers
  4. DEi efforts were promoted through a variety of channels, including social media, the monthly corporate newsletter, website, brochures and flyers, biogs and videos. In addition, the committee developed a system to recognize diverse holidays, creating awareness for staff with links and informational resources
Outcomes:

Through implementation of the DEi Strategic Plan, the actions resulted in a variety of positive changes including:

  1. The development of an online DEi resource library
  2. Increased communication regarding DEi initiatives with internal and external stakeholders
  3. Increased partnerships with colleges and universities to enhance recruitment efforts of diverse students
