Fortive Day of Caring

Challenge

Community involvement was managed on an ad hoc basis with inconsistent support and tracking across our Operating Companies.

Actions

To give our teams around the world an opportunity to join together and give back in a meaningful way, we introduced our annual Fortive Day of Caring.

Every Operating Company was asked to provide one day (paid) for every employee for a Day of Caring/Giving Back in their communities, any time during a designated month. The schedule flexibility allowed for all employees, across all locations and shifts, to participate in some way but still be flexible to the needs of the business/locations. Employees were invited to contribute either through organized, team-coordinated events or by giving back individually to a cause that they were personally passionate about.

Our Objectives:

  • Signal cultural commitment to living our shared purpose and values through a significant investment in our communities
  • Support our Employee Value Proposition by promoting pride, personal fulfillment and the opportunity to make a difference in the world
  • Unify our one Fortive team around the world: enhance inclusion and belonging by centralizing events during the month of September and by rallying around causes that our employees care about
Outcomes

In our first year, 25 operating companies conducted more than 200 community service events in over 90 communities worldwide.  Our employees donated an estimated 100,000 volunteer hours to the communities in which we work and live.  Search #fortivecares for images and stories.

Quote

We believe that giving back matters – to our communities and to ourselves. We have so much to be thankful for,  and sharing our talents and resources with our neighbors helps us to find meaning in our lives at work. A visible commitment to making an impact here is becoming increasingly important not only to our people, but also to our customers and shareholders. More importantly, our employees often cite community service initiatives as the way they find a sense of belonging, enhancing the effort and creativity that they give their work.
