Expanding Parental Leave

Challenge

44% of DI employee base are between the ages of 21 and 35 years of age. Given this, multiple times during the year we celebrate one of the more important life stages: parenthood. Our goal was to ensure to these employees had the support needed to meet this critical life stage.

Actions

Starting in January 2021, DI will expand its parental leave benefit which is for all births, adoptions and is gender-neutral to include birth and non-birth parents.

Outcomes

Yet to be implemented, we know this policy helps to demonstrate being attuned to the realities of parenthood which includes the necessity for both parents to participate in the birth event and to attend to the support needed after a birth event. According to BLS data, only 44% of companies in the U.S. offer parental leave—a slow uptick from 40% of companies who offered parental leave 5 years ago. We also know this will not only attract more working parents, but it will help us to retain them.
