ETS Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy and ETS Business Resource Groups

Challenge

As we drive toward our mission to advance equity in education, ETS must support our diverse employees, communities and customers. We do this by making substantial contributions to community organizations through our Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy (CAAP). CAAP focuses its advocacy on the need to improve educational outcomes for learners with the least resources. Similarly, ETS’s Institute for Student Achievement (ISA) collaborates with schools and districts to ensure that all students, including underserved and underperforming students, graduate prepared for postsecondary success.

ETS established Business Resource Groups, employee-led interest groups, which aim to enhance mindfulness of issues affecting employees who share a common purpose, interest or background, and foster awareness, respect and inclusion within the workplace.

Actions

Through corporate and employee giving, CAAP gives more than $1 Million dollars each year, as well as in-kind contributions, to community organizations located near ETS offices and that are committed to providing educational opportunities and needed social services to marginalized and underserved communities.

Four initial Business Resource Groups were formed to promote inclusivity at ETS. These groups bring employees together to acknowledge and celebrate their similarities and differences and support the business goals of the organization by providing valuable insight and perspective.

Outcomes

ETS’s philanthropic activities enable local organizations across the country to continue to serve their communities and help young learners thrive. These include scholarships to students, as well as grants and contributions to non-profit organizations. ETS Business Resource Groups have provided valuable and diverse insight on our guidelines for fairness in testing. Together, CAAP and the Business Resource Groups have offered employees opportunities to practice inclusion through various events celebrating Juneteenth, Pride Month, Black History Month and several heritage commemorations. Since its founding, ISA has supported 100,000+ students from large urban districts on the East Coast to tribal communities on the West Coast.

Quote

As a mission-driven organization we are consistently seeking to advance equity in education for all learners. This work starts with our own company and culture to ensure we provide a safe space where each of our employees can thrive. Outside our walls, we are committed to philanthropy and advocacy that has
lasting impact on the lives of young people with the least resources and opportunities.
