Employee Resource Committee

Challenge

Some of our diverse populations were not adequately represented or connected across our multi-office, nationwide footprint.

Actions

During Barry McCarthy’s first year as CEO in 2019, Deluxe organized an Employee Resource Committee and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to build cultural awareness, inclusiveness, and respect; promote professional development; provide a resource for recruitment and retention; create a productive and engaging work environment; and strengthen community partnerships.

Our ERGs have been instrumental in galvanizing our efforts and driving us as a company to be part of the solution. A key component of these ERGs is that membership is not restricted, but rather all are encouraged to join. By sharing experiences and dialogue, we come to common understandings.

Outcomes

To date, we have stood up four active ERGs: African American, LGBTQ, Veterans and Women. More ERGs are being formed as employees are empowered to be the change they want to see in the world. These ERGs have been instrumental in fostering enterprise-wide discussion on equality and equity, creating our Inclusion & Diversity Task Force, and driving proposals to leadership to observe national holidays, such as MLK and Veterans Day.

Quote

Deluxe is a purpose- and values-driven company. We build the fabric of our world by championing business, so communities thrive. Earning trust by consistently doing the right thing is one of our five core values, and something we embed into our daily activities. When it comes to inclusion and diversity, we listen closely to our employees, taking their lead in how we embrace our differences, share our collective stories and build on our need to embrace what makes each of us unique in our own ways. We don’t want to just emote about what we see happening, we want to be part of the change.
