Drug Rehab Services Minority Series

Challenge

At Drug Rehab Services and Addicted.org, we feel that it is impossible to continue our mission without acknowledging and shedding light on the role of systemic racism in addiction, substance abuse treatment, and recovery in America. It is nothing new and is a pervasive element of our society. Fighting against addiction, we naturally find ourselves in alignment with all efforts that strengthen the human spirit and seek to end hatred, discrimination, and suffering. We support all minority populations and find that education can be an effective form of prevention.

Actions

To help spread awareness on these issues, we have created resources to help individuals better understand how systemic racism is prevalent in substance abuse and addiction recovery. It discusses how outdated policies have created an unfair environment for people of color and proposes potential solutions for the future.

Outcomes

The following are resources we created as part of Drug Rehab Services Minority Series:

Black Lives Matter & Substance Use
Systemic Racism, Substance Use and Latino Americans
Asian American Discrimination and Substance Use

We hope that these resources can shed light on this serious issue and invite others to share these resources to help educate their employees and communities.
