Diversity Week

Challenge:

Athene is committed to do more by working to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion are woven into our organizational DNA. We have 10 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that represent the robust diversity of our community. Recognizing the hard work our ERGs have committed in driving forth our DEI strategy, we wanted to celebrate their engagement and achievements.

Actions:

In 2022, Athene celebrated our first Diversity Week - an opportunity to highlight our 10 ERGs and the diversity of our communities. During the celebration, employees participated in an ERG Fair, Guest Speaker Lunch & Learn, crossword puzzle and a picnic.

To kick the week off, employees who completed a crossword enhanced their knowledge about ERGs at Athene. The Lunch & Learn featured guest speaker JJ Moses, an Iowan native and former NFL player. During this time, employees learned about the importance of diversity and goal setting. The ERG Fair provided the opportunity for ERG members to feature their respective groups and events. We wrapped up Diversity Week with an ERG picnic where the Athene community joined together with friends and family to share food, games and fun.

Outcomes:

Since we held Diversity Week, membership in our ERGs has seen significant growth – an increase of 25% of our total employee population. Our employees were able to network and learn more about the organization through the employee resource groups. And we celebrated ERG leaders and recognized their valuable commitment to DEI at Athene.

Hosting events throughout Diversity Week was such a success due to the involvement and camaraderie of our ERG members. After the picnic, numerous employees commented on how bringing their families to the ERG picnic helped strengthen community and connections. In the future, we will continue building bridges and breaking down barriers with such events that foster meaningful relationships.
