Diversity & Inclusion Educational Series for Members
Challenge
There is a significant lack of racial diversity in the financial services industry, both in executive leadership and among independent financial advisors. The industry's makeup should reflect that of the population, and studies have shown that clients prefer to work with financial advisors who have similar backgrounds to their own. As the trade association for independent financial services firms and independent financial advisors, FSI can bring together our members from across the country and various industry sectors to address this issue.
Actions
We have developed a Diversity & Inclusion educational series for our members designed to foster conversations, inspire change, and create inclusive cultures within the industry. So far, the series has included virtual workshops and discussion groups, providing our members the opportunity to learn together and hear from D&I experts and leaders within the industry.
Outcomes
So far, we have hosted two events in the series, totaling over 100 participants. These events have initiated conversations among FSI members and their colleagues and provided the first steps for building inclusive cultures and promoting people of color and women to leadership positions within the profession.
We will host our third event in the coming weeks, and our 2021 annual conference will feature a keynote session on how attendees can take action to build diverse and inclusive cultures at their firms. We will also create opportunities for our members to share useful resources and exchange best practices based on their firms' experiences.
