Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Social Justice Response

Challenge

FHLBank Indianapolis is committed to supporting the communities that we serve. We are aware of the social injustices facing our nation and the negative behaviors that have been directed toward African Americans. Finding new ways to support, educate, and give voice to social justice concerns was amplified in 2020.

Actions

The bank joined the public discourse and reaffirmed our commitment against racism and other forms of discriminatory behavior. In addition, employees gathered to discuss the African American experience and ways to move toward understanding, healing, and Outlined below are a few of the actions and activities that took place in 2020:

  • Public Statement Released: "Reaffirming Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion"
  • President and CEO hosted a D&I conversation with African American staff
  • Conducted senior leaders' annual D&I training: "Telling Our Story: A Conversation on Race with Black Professionals at FHLBank Indianapolis"
Outcomes

The bank implemented the following changes to assist in greater engagement around racial equality:

  • The President and CEO created the DEI Executive Advisory Group to provide expanded C-Suite focus on D&I strategic initiatives
  • Launched an African American ERG in August 2020
  • Corporate observance of Juneteenth
  • Distributed tips to managers on "How Managers Can Support Healthy Discussions about Race"
  • Donation campaigns to be held in 2021 to support two organizations focused on social justice in the bank's district (Indiana & Michigan)
