Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Awareness All-Associate Sessions/Workshops in 2021

Challenge

Raising the Level Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Awareness Among PECO Associates

Actions

Phillips Edison & Company (PECO) hosted three highly interactive, all-associate sessions designed to raise awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in 2021.

The first two sessions entitled Inclusion by Design and Brave Spaces, were facilitated by Joe Gerstandt, a highly acclaimed speaker and expert in helping organizations understand diversity and inclusion. In addition to his keynote and interactive question and answer session, Joe provided valuable insight and resources to PECO's multicultural business resource group, PECO MORE, to ensure the organization could build upon the topics and learnings from his sessions well into the future.

The third event entitled Building Meaningful Connections, Communications Across Cultures was facilitated by Priya Dhingra Klocek, President & CEO of Consultant On The Go LLC, a consulting firm that focuses on diagnosing and improving the fundamental human interactions upon which all successful businesses are built. Priya's session was conducted as part of a larger customer service learning and development week hosted by PECO and attended by all its associates. The session was designed to raise awareness within the company and to focus on issues of customer service with tenants, which PECO refers to as neighbors, and vendors/partners at each of PECO's approximately 300 neighborhood grocery-anchored shopping centers.

Outcomes

Through the Inclusion by Design, Brave Spaces, and Building Meaningful Connections, Communications Across Cultures sessions offered to all associates in 2021 PECO built a foundation of awareness and sensitivity to issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion that is aligned with PECO's core values of "Do The Right Thing" and "Always Keep Learning."
