Diversity and Inclusion Pledge

Challenge

The real estate, technology and venture capital industries do not always have the best reputation for diversity and inclusion. We believe this hinders innovation and prevents companies from accessing the best talent.

Actions

In August 2019 MetaProp publicly pledged to build a diverse, inclusive, and harassment-free community.

As a leading firm at the intersection of real estate, technology and venture capital, MetaProp strongly believes that inclusion, diversity and mutual respect are critical to the health and longevity of both our business and the broader real estate technology ecosystem. We believe in an inclusive and diverse work environment where all individuals feel respected, are treated fairly, provided work-life balance, and an opportunity to excel in their chosen careers. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to diminish bias and increase inclusion by listening to different viewpoints, opinions, thoughts, and ideas and embracing a culture of inclusion.

At the same time, MetaProp set out to prioritize inclusive hiring practices and make efforts to continue to invest in diverse founders who reflect the communities we live and do business in. Diversity is beyond how we hire, but it is fundamentally embedded in how we operate. We are especially proud to bring together underrepresented backgrounds across our investment, platform, and shared services teams.

Through our pledge, we encouraged our portfolio companies and limited partners to prioritize diversity, inclusion, and safe work environments as well and we have been actively supporting them via regular communication and best practice sharing.

MetaProp believes that anyone engaging with or on behalf of our company - whether it is an entrepreneur at one of our portfolio companies (or a prospective entrepreneur), a business partner, an investor, an employee, an intern, or a vendor - is entitled to be treated with respect and should respect others. We do not tolerate harassment of any kind.

We regularly review and update our policies, on-boarding processes, and training protocols under the leadership of the MetaProp Advisory Board. Our framework clearly defines inappropriate behavior boundary levels for all parties and makes it easy for victims to report incidents without fearing retaliation. We believe that all employees and partners (not just a victim) are responsible for flagging potentially inappropriate behavior.

MetaProp’s early diversity and inclusion efforts are a source of great pride for the firm’s leadership and team. That said, our industry has a long way to go and we are committed to doing even more as the PropTech venture capital ecosystem grows. MetaProp will continue investing in the people, organizations (including CEO Act!on for D&I), and tools that move us and our industry closer to our vision of a diverse, inclusive and harassment-free environment.
