Diverse Leadership

Challenge

Increasing minority representation in executive-level positions.

Actions

Argentum is committed to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the senior living industry. This requires a partnership among our members, staff, and other stakeholders. With the support of our Board of Directors, we have formed a coalition to work with a consultant to help develop a long-term plan to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to organizations seeking to create companies and communities that are diverse, equal, and inclusive. We recognize that executive-level recruitment strategies need to be broader to draw in more diverse candidates and that diversity, equity, and inclusion is a strategic objective that, with time, can change the culture of a company. Argentum and senior living providers are looking within our industry to take positive steps to build opportunity, equity, and inclusion for people of color and provide strategies and resources to recruit and retain minorities in executive-level positions.

Outcomes

Educating our members and providing best practices on DEI is crucial to bringing change. Within our senior living works platform, as part of our workforce development initiative, we have identified available programs at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) through our Senior Living Works Education Pipeline. This will allow our members to expand the recruitment efforts of minorities by tapping into the talent at HBCUs. We will also be developing a long-term plan to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to organizations seeking to create companies and communities that are diverse, equal, and inclusive.

Quote

The senior living industry is proud to have a diverse workforce-nearly 40% identify as people of color. To better reflect who we are as an industry, we need to see similar representation among our leadership and executive positions, as well. We need to take positive steps to build opportunity, equity, and inclusion for people of color and provide strategies and resources to recruit and retain minorities in executive level positions.
