Striving for equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace has never been more important as it is today. Diversity & inclusion (D&I) is a business imperative to achieve business goals: it will help us to attract, grow and retain the best people. To keep fuelling our growth and develop our people in Europe, our businesses across Europe have agreed to take a common commitment on D&I and founded the D&I Advisory Board Europe. The Board’s strategic framework is focused on age (generations), gender (balancing m/f) and culture (fostering an inclusive culture) in three areas: talent acquisition (Finding), retention & engagement (Binding) and career development (Climbing). To understand the current landscape, define the action plan and set the targets, the Board had the need for D&I metrics; after all Stanley Black & Decker is a numbers-driven company.
Since the first Board meeting in 2016, the European HR Measuring & Reporting team creates Quarterly D&I Dashboards. These dashboards provide a quarterly overview for the BU Leaders with European and BU-specific data on new hires, promotions and exits in relation to gender balance and generational diversity. In 2017, the HRMS team added trends into the report to enable the BU Leaders to track their progress.
The D&I Data is reviewed twice per year during the D&I Board Meeting. BU Presidents together with their HR Business Partners set goals & KPIs to work towards a greater balance in terms of gender and generational diversity in the ‘Finding’ and ‘Binding’ pillars of the strategic framework. This includes a proactive approach in getting diverse talents on board, making sure diverse talents are fully engaged and pro-actively supporting diverse talents to grow in their careers. This will ultimately result in a more diverse workforce and a more inclusive culture, driving innovation, engagement and productivity.
