Data shows that minorities and low-income individuals are under-represented in the workplace. This program is part of a strategy to help close gap in our community by providing pathways to career success for high school and college students in underserved communities through skills training, meaningful work experience, and impactful relationships.
Across America, millions of young people are shut out of today's workforce due to lack of relevant skills and work experience. At the same time, millions of entry-level jobs go unfilled because companies struggle to find qualified candidates. When it comes to entry-level hiring, young people from low-income backgrounds are often at a disadvantage. Many haven't had an opportunity to develop the skills or experience employers seek when hiring young talent. Genesys Works is an organization that is committed to filling this gap. Their mission is to provide pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities through skills training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships. A key element of their program is partnering with corporations to provide real-world work experience. For nearly a decade, Medica has been a Genesys Works corporate partner, providing Genesys interns with the opportunity to work in Medica's Information Technology department. In addition to our partnership, Medica's chief information officer serves on the board of Genesys Works.
As a partner, Medica has hosted more than 60 interns in our IT Department. These interns have gained confidence and skills that have carried them through high school, college and into the corporate world. Medica is looking at additional ways to partner with Genesys Works outside of our IT department. To bring greater visibility to this program, Medica featured the partnership with Genesys Works in its 2018 annual report.
