Creating a Global Inclusion Advisor role

Challenge

Across the regions that we work in, Dalberg has numerous diversity and inclusion initiatives spearheaded by staff across a range of different identities (e.g. gender, race, sexuality, educational background, parental status). However, to truly scale and embed inclusion in our polices and processes and ensure cross-fertilization of learnings across the initiatives we already have, a senior coordination mechanism is missing.

Actions

To institutionalize the staff-led to momentum to bring our authentic selves to work, we have created a Global Inclusion Advisor role that sits on our governance committees and reports to the Global Managing Partner. The Global Inclusion Advisor is tasked with embedding an inclusion mindset in our culture—an ongoing process that includes decision-making, policies, processes, and client/office/team-level dynamics. The Global Inclusion Advisor also serves as a thought partner for staff at all levels everywhere on how we can embed diversity and inclusion both internally, and in the solution set we bring to the world.

Outcomes

Currently two Dalberg Partners have stepped into share the Global Inclusion Advisor role. This took place in early 2019 and we are excited to embrace and support their efforts.

Quote

As a values-led strategy consultancy with staff that represent over 50 nationalities and speak over 90 languages, diversity is core to our DNA at Dalberg. In fact, the Dalberg difference is our diversity and inclusivity, as we bring that lens to even the most traditional market entry, business growth, or investment strategy work we do with our clients. It is also why we will never stop pushing ourselves to improve internally, evolving our own organization to reflect the kind of change we wish to see in the world.
